More than £35,000 is being made available for community groups who want to set up craft, sewing or knitting groups. The funds are available from Recycle for Greater Manchester to support community groups to deliver creative projects and successful partnerships.

PARISH COUNCIL BY ELECTION WON BY LIBERAL DEMOCRATS

In contrast to the national performance, the Liberal Democrats gained a seat in the Saddleworth Parish Council by-election. The by-election was held to replace the late independent councillor Ken Hulme who died in February. Sharon McGladdery received 43 more votes than the Independent candidate Helen Bishop.

SADDLEWORTH COUNCILLOR ONE OF THE YOUNGEST

In the recent local elections, the closest vote of the night belonged to Saddleworth North, with Liberal Democrat candidate Garth Harkness beating Independent candidate Nikki Kirkham by just 56 votes. Garth replaces Mike Buckley who stood down this year. Liberal Democrats held two of the 3 Saddleworth seats, with the Conservatives gaining a seat from the LIberal Democrats in Saddleworth South.
